A Hidden Gem in Capetown
In a town inundated by markets every weekend, I was excited to find this wonderful market at the Palms; an old warehouse-type building converted into a 2 story modern open-air structure. This Saturday market fills the interior of the Palms, illuminated by enormous windows overhead, the smell and sizzle of food permeating the air. People perch on steps outside, enjoying a glass of wine or takeaway from one of the shops inside.
I circled the market like a hawk, devouring the samples and chatting up the vendors (the classic cheesecake with the chocolate ganache from KT’s Kitchen was a particular favorite). I tried a phenomenal spicy pasta sauce from Kurt’s Deli Meats made with ground chorizo sausage (yum!) and found they also make homemade lasagna from this sauce, also for sale! The design side of the market featured a vendor who makes T-Rex tie pins (!), not to mention a vendor selling crates and crates of books with fantastic titles. I walked away with a giant bag of things and had to teeter all the way home with it balanced precariously on my handlebars.
This awesome little market tucked away in Woodstock is not to be missed. If you’re in Capetown, don’t forget to stop by!
